Pre-Conference Workshop Information

There are two Pre-Conference Workshops to choose from this year. Both workshops require you to be registered for the Annual Conference and there is no additional cost to attend the workshops. Separate registration for the workshops are required, so please complete the registration form to indicate the workshop you are interested in attending.

Workshop 1: Using IPEDS to Support Compliance Reporting for Accreditation
Presented by Carrie Mata – Sunday, March 9, 2025 – 8:30 am – 12:00 pm (Salon I)
Note: This session has a maximum registration of 20 participants.

This workshop is designed to empower participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) for accreditation reporting. The emphasis on this workshop is in building tables that benchmark the institution in relation to its peers – a requirement in for a number of accrediting body standards. Learn which standards you can use IPEDS and walk away with ready-made tables.

In this comprehensive session, we will cover:

  • Overview of IPEDS and its role in accountability: Gain foundational insights into how IPEDS data supports accreditation requirements.
  • General topics overview: Explore key areas that influence reporting and compliance. Learn where IPEDS data can help your institution demonstrate compliance.
  • Deep dive into using Compare Institution tool: Learn to analyze and compare institutional data for informed decision-making.
  • Sample tables creation: Discover how to build practical tables using IPEDS data to enhance your reports.
  • Resource sharing: Access valuable tools and materials to support your ongoing use of IPEDS.

Whether you’re new to IPEDS or looking to refine your skills, this workshop will equip you with the essential knowledge to navigate data effectively. Participants can expect to leave the workshop with benchmarking tables they can include in self-study or other accreditation reports.

Workshop 2: UNC System Workshop & Working Session
Presented by: TBA – Sunday, March 9, 2025 – 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm (Salon I)

All users of the UNC System Data Mart are encouraged to attend this user group meeting hosted by the System Office. Share practices, hear updates, and build skills in this workshop and working session. Current and future plans for the UNC data marts: student data (SDM), human resource (HRDM) and finance data (FDM) will be discussed, along with the Insight analytics platform.

Topics will include:

  • Future plans and roadmaps, including anticipated features and enhancements.
  • Open forum/roundtable discussion — including suggestions for improvements or future capabilities for the roadmaps.
  • A discussion on UNC System Office policy initiatives.
  • We want to hear from you about campus initiatives relating to
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Data governance
    • How campuses respond to data requests from internal and external researchers and when you say no.
    • How is your campus using human resources, finance data, and our other data systems such as Academic Program Inventory (API) and facilities (DAVE)
    • Fostering communities of practice
  • Open discussion and other topics of interest.
